Shwedagon Pagoda is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar, as it is believed to contain relics of the four previous Buddhas of the present kalpa. The 99-meter stupa is plated with 8688 sheets of gold, studded with more than 7000 diamonds, rubies, sapphires and topaz stones along with a massive piece of emerald. It is said that the emerald bounces off the last rays of the sun as it sets. The crown is topped by a diamond bud called ‘sein bu’ which carries a 74-carat diamond. The material and spiritual value of this escapes us for it simply goes beyond any mortal’s reason capacity.
