A Cherokee Elder explained to me..."Woman is Fire, she is the light in the dakness, the heat when it is cold and carries the energy to synergize our food. Man is the Protector of the Fire, he keeps it from going out and from wildly burning down the forest." The relationships in our lives are reflected in this principle.
