In this African folktale, Cat and Rat are best friends. One day, Rat suggests starting a cassava farm with Cat so they can sell what they don't eat. They can use the money to move to the city. Cat doesn't want to move to the city. Rat sells all the cassava without Cat knowing and moves away, never to be seen again. Cat is so upset that he chases every rat he sees. And that is why cats chase rats.
