This time we dive into the vivid and spiritual world of Mexican ritual dance. La Danza de los Voladores ("Dance of the Flyers") is an ancient Mesoamerican ritual still performed today. It’s a 5-people dance followed by a climb onto a 30-meter pole from which four of the five dancers then launch themselves down to the ground tied with ropes. The fifth remains on top of the pole, dancing and playing the flute and drum. Legend has it, the ritual was performed to ask the gods to end a severe drought.
