Explore the Blessed Virgin Mary in Scripture, tradition, and devotion with one of the world's leading experts as your personal guide and teacher.
In 14 illuminating lectures, Fr. Bert Buby, SM, will take you on a journey with Mary through the Gospels, St. Paul's letters, and the book of Revelation. Then, you’ll see Mary revealed through the liturgical use of Old Testament texts and 46 Masses honoring the mother of Jesus.
You will follow the development of Marian theology, seeing how the earliest Christians testify to her role and her gifts of grace: her virginity, sinlessness, role as God-bearer (Theotokos), and Assumption into heaven. Their sermons, essays, and defense of her person form the living tradition of the Church.
You will explore the four Marian dogmas in the light of the Incarnation and learn how the church makes Mary known through the Scriptures, the liturgy, and devotions.
Fr. Buby will guide you through Vatican II's document on Mary as well as the teachings by Paul VI, John Paul II, and Benedict XVI. You will also come to understand the power of the great Marian prayers and Mary’s relationship to the Trinity.
As you prayerfully reflect on the person of Mary, you will be called to grow in your understanding and love of the mother of Jesus.
